Steadman Financial Planner Chris Heerdegen is once again setting out to make waves in the fight against Alzheimer’s Disease with his 6th annual Rowing to Remember fundraiser. This inspiring event, scheduled for Friday, June 21st at Forest View Lanes Recreation Bar & Grill, will see Chris rowing from 6 am to 10 pm, aiming to complete an impressive 72 miles in support of the Alzheimer’s Association.

A Personal Mission Inspired by Family

The Rowing to Remember event is part of the Longest Day campaign, a nationwide initiative where thousands of participants engage in activities, they are passionate about to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. Chris’s inspiration to start this fundraiser came from a deeply personal place—his father, Dick Heerdegen, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. After his father’s passing in 2018 at age 72, Chris channeled his grief and determination into creating this event to honor his father's memory and to help fight the darkness of Alzheimer’s.

Training and Dedication

Chris’s journey with indoor rowing began as he sought out ways to prevent the disease and improve his health. His dedication to this cause is evident not only in his 16-hour rowing marathon but also in his rigorous preparation. Each winter solstice – the shortest day of the year - Chris and his team row a marathon of 42,000 meters to kick-off their training. Recently, on Cinco de Mayo, they rowed 50,000 meters in just five hours, showcasing their commitment and endurance. Chris also maintains a regular training schedule, rowing three to four times a week and working with a personal trainer.

Remarkable Achievements and Community Support

Since its inception in 2019, Rowing to Remember has raised over $135,000, consistently ranking among the top 50 Longest Day campaign initiatives, and within the top 15 for the last two years. Chris is profoundly grateful for the continued support, saying, “I’m beyond humbled people show up to support this event, year after year. It just shows you how blessed I am to have the relationships I have, and how we share a common passion for helping find a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease.”

Exciting Plans for 2024

As the event continues to grow, Chris ensures it offers something for everyone. Attendees can look forward to a variety of activities, including rowing, bowling, volleyball, inflatables, food, music, and more. This year’s live entertainment features local 80’s and 90s cover band, the Skittle Bots, performing at 7:00 pm, with the classic rock trio band Parallel Universe opening at 4:30 and Perrysburg’s School of Rock youth band also taking the stage. Exciting prize opportunities include the 2nd Annual Duck Drone Drop, where participants can win cash prizes of $1,000, $500, or $250, and a raffle featuring donations from local businesses.

Adding to the excitement, this year introduces the Riding to Remember Poker Run on Saturday, June 22nd. Participants will enjoy a scenic ride with stops at local businesses, concluding with a wrap-up party at Inside the Five Field House, complete with food trucks and festivities.

How to Get Involved

With a fundraising goal of $50,000 for 2024, there are numerous ways to get involved. Whether you join Chris and his team in rowing, make an online donation, buy a duck for the Duck Drop, or spread the word on social media, every bit of support counts. For more information on how to participate, visit www.rowingtoremember.com.

Chris’s tireless efforts and the community’s enthusiastic participation exemplify the power of coming together for a meaningful cause. We wish him all the best for this year’s event and look forward to another successful year in the fight against Alzheimer’s!

Dylan Mason
Financial Professional | Toledo

Where are you from?
Columbus Grove, Ohio.

Why did you choose to work at Steadman Financial Group?
The business industry has always interested me, and I get to work with my father and other family members which is a pretty cool opportunity.

What causes or community services do you have a passion for?
I like to support small businesses when I can, especially due to my mother being a small business owner.

Outside of the office, what do you enjoy doing?
Outside of work, I like to spend my weekends at the lake hanging with friends and family.

If you absolutely had to sing karaoke, what song would you pick?
When It Rains It Pours by Luke Combs.

Where is one of your favorite places to travel and why?
Hilton Head, SC because I like the beach, and the food is very good, too.

Marc Seymour
Financial Planner | Toledo

Where are you from?
Toledo, Ohio.

Why did you choose to work at Steadman Financial Group?
Having literally grown up at Seymour & Associates - the former general agency for MassMutual in Toledo - Steadman was always on my short list for firms I would consider. The people here made it the right time to come back and the long-term strength and performance of MassMutual allow me to take care of clients the best I can.

What causes or community services do you have a passion for?
My family loves supporting the Ronald McDonald House. When we needed care in MN for our sweet daughter - Quinn - the Ronald McDonald House opened its' doors and gave us a home for our then 2-year-old son and all the family who came to support us. We collect can tabs all the time and try to volunteer and serve meals at the local house, too.

What life achievement are you most proud of?
After our daughter passed away in 2012, my wife Mandy and I, with the tremendous support of our families, were able to partner with the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital (who took care of Quinn) to fundraise and build the spiritual space in their new hospital that was desperately needed. In March 2016, the Quinn Seymour Chapel was opened and welcomes families every day for a quiet place to recover and prepare for the challenges of living in a hospital with your child.

Outside of the office, what do you enjoy doing?
Outside of the office, I love spending time with my wife, Mandy, and son, Camden. We love spending time at the lake, are active in church groups, and I try to get to the golf course whenever I can!

Where is one of your favorite places to travel and why?
We love going to the beach, there is just something about the sounds and smells of the ocean rolling in. One of our recent favorites was St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands.

Nolan Neville
Financial Planner | Cincinnati

Where are you from?
Cincinnati, Ohio.

Why did you choose to work at Steadman Financial Group?
It felt like the best fit for me to begin my financial career.

What causes or community services do you have a passion for?
I have a passion for physical health. I have made that an important part of my everyday life and on top of that I have helped others around me lead a healthier lifestyle. I look to continue to be a source of trust for people who may need help with their personal health and nutrition.

Outside of the office, what do you enjoy doing?
I love spending time out on the golf course with my buddies and spending time with my friends and family.

If you could share a beer with any person throughout history, who would it be and why?
Matthew McConaughey because he exudes confidence and is one of the coolest guys of all time.

If you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Gladiator.

Jose Rivera
Financial Professional | Cleveland

Where are you from?
Phoenix, Arizona.

Why did you choose to work at Steadman Financial Group?
I wanted to work for Keven & Cathy Prather and also David Freno. I believe their team is the best that the financial industry has to offer and they've become great mentors of mine.

What causes or community services do you have a passion for?
My personal convictions lie with the fact that I strive to bring knowledge and understanding to individuals and families who are hard-working individuals but never had the right resources to learn financial discipline. In doing that, I hope to help many families to either establish a great foundation so that the next generation can elevate, or simply help them elevate from their current situation. Something I hope to start one day is a shelter to help all individuals get off their feet, not a homeless shelter but a place where anyone can learn.

Who is your role model? What do you admire about them?
Jesus Christ is my role model. What I admire most about Jesus is his humility to love on those who hate Him. The understanding he has when it comes to my heart good or bad. The forgiveness and grace he shows me when I try to follow his example and fail.

Any big plans coming up?
I'm having a daughter soon.

If you could snap your fingers and become an expert in something, what would it be?
Wisdom.

Thomas Anderson
Financial Planner | Castalia

Where are you from?
Castalia, Ohio.

Why did you choose to work at Steadman Financial Group?
I am joining the practice of my stepdad, Randy Day, as he is preparing for his retirement over the next few years. I chose to work with Steadman because of their commitment to developing advisors and the resources available within the firm to better serve our existing clients.

What causes or community services do you have a passion for?
Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes, Erie County 4-H Camp, and Youth & Young Adult Mental Health Advocacy.

Outside of the office, what do you enjoy doing?
Outside of the office, I am an avid golfer and fisherman. In the warm months, I am either on the course or on Lake Erie. I also have a 1-year-old miniature Australian Shepherd named Murphy who takes up a lot of my spare time with his endless energy!

What is something about you that surprises most people?
Most people are surprised to learn I've already graduated college and started my career. They typically assume that I am around 16 and working to get my drivers license! Everyone tells me I'll appreciate my "youthful" appearance more as I continue to age.

If you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Good Will Hunting, how you like them apples?!

Thank you all for sharing. We are thrilled to have you here with us!

We work together, celebrate together, serve our clients together - and we welcome together. In June, we were excited to welcome Nate Eberly, Ron Maxwell, and Doug Singer to our team.

Scroll down to learn a little about them!

Nate Eberly
Financial Planner | Toledo

Where are you from?
Trick question really...grew up living in no location for more than six years from the time of birth until 2003, when I moved from Southern Maryland to Bowling Green, OH to get out of the big city environment. I do claim Maryland as my home state, despite being born in Athens, OH in '81.

Why did you choose to work at Steadman Financial Group?
Flexibility, accessibility, culture, and connection. Flexibility in ability to assist clients in truly their best interest; accessibility to technology, marketing, and other resources and people that can assist me grow my business better than before; culture of what I have witnessed Steadman and MassMutual support; and connection to my local area both in business leaders as well as positive influencers in our community.

What causes or community services do you have a passion for?
I hold veteran and military related causes close to my heart due to my family's deep military service and ties. Both my parents served in the US Army, my brother and nephew are Marines, and throughout all extended family includes over 100 years of combined military service. Most notably locally I support Little Blessings Veterans and Community Outreach.

I am a member of Exchange Club, as well, having assisted in starting the newest Chapter in the area, the Exchange Club of Sylvania. A National service and networking organization dedicated to the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, Americanism and Veterans, Youth Programming, and Community Service.

And I don't think there is an animal cause or group that has asked me for money that I ever denied helping.

Outside of the office, what do you enjoy doing?
Outside of the office, my wife and I enjoy time outdoors during the warmer months, most likely taking in a game at the Mudhens or other teams across the area, golfing at Sylvania Country Club, spending time in the sun next to our or the SCC pool, as well as trying to keep pace of reading two books a month.

What life achievement are you most proud of?
My life's greatest achievement has been to help support my father in his retirement through his recent passing in March of 2023. The ability to make sure he was able to survive massive change in income and lifestyle in a blink of an eye along with assuring he would have financial support and his legacy protected was a proud moment. Hearing him thank me for all I did in his last moments motivates me to help others in their financial lives, helping be a guide towards their life's aspirations and goals.

What would a sandwich named after you have on it?
If there would be a sandwich with my name associated with it, it would be of this design: A deliciously prepared true Maryland Style Crabcake, placed on a toasted kaiser bun with an Old Bay Aioli, with layered freshly sliced ham and turkey, topped with American & cheddar cheeses, with tomato and fresh lettuce. I introduce you to my favorite sandwich, the "Nate Eberly Crabcake Club."

Ron Maxwell
Financial Planner | Medina

Where are you from?
The Cleveland area. I have lived on the near west side of Cleveland most of my life in Brook Park, Parma, Garfield Heights, and Seven Hills.

Why did you choose to work at Steadman Financial Group?
I've spent most of my 20-year career in financial services with the same firm, but there has always been something missing. I am hopeful that I have found that something, here at Steadman and am looking forward to building new relationships here.

What causes or community services do you have a passion for?
Really, I do my best to treat others with kindness and love. I have a passion for music and spent many years singing in bands and on worship teams. Taking a little hiatus from that as I have my hands full between work and raising two young kids (10 and 6). They are my passion, along with my oldest daughter (23).

Outside of the office, what do you enjoy doing?
Outside of the office, I enjoy hanging out with my kids, singing and playing guitar, golfing with my uncle or friends, driving through the Metroparks, going to beaches, and spending time with my girlfriend and her two dogs. I also enjoy watching sports and movies.

If you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life, what would it be?
If I could only watch one movie for the rest of my life, it would probably be Shawshank Redemption, as it has a full range of emotion in it, from sorrow to grief, as well as hope and joy and faith. One of my all-time favorites, for sure.

If you could snap your and become an expert in something, what would it be?
If I could become an expert at something with the snap of my fingers, I think I'd like to be an expert of the human mind, so that I would be able to understand why people do the things they do and think the way they think. For instance, what triggers each person to take action or not to?

Doug Singer
Sales Director | Cleveland

Where are you from?
Cleveland, Ohio.

Why did you choose to work at Steadman Financial Group?
I joined because of the culture of the firm, the firm's commitment to the community and the ability to build a team that is committed to helping our clients achieve their financial goals.

What causes or community services do you have a passion for?
The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation and youth baseball.

Outside of the office, what do you enjoy doing?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with friends and family (especially my grandchildren), travelling and playing golf.

If you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life, what would it be?
The Godfather.

Where is one of your favorite places to travel and why?
Aruba is one of my favorite places. The weather is always amazing, the beaches are beautiful and the food is fantastic.

Thank you all for sharing. We are thrilled to have you here with us!

My first job ever was during High school working at a roller-skating rink. It was fun, as a lot my friends hung out there and sometimes, if it wasn't busy, I could take a break and skate for a few minutes with them. It was good experience.

Where is one of your favorite places to travel and why?
I have several favorite places to travel. I enjoy Nashville, TN, Tampa, Fl, the Smokies in Tennessee, and of course, Las Vegas. I would really like the opportunity to travel to Europe and visit England or Italy. Just to experience the history, the people and the architecture would be amazing.

What is the funniest "dad joke" you know?

On Mother’s Day (and always), we honor and show appreciation for the loving women who help make us who we are. Mothers can be many things - a first friend, a guiding light, a teacher, a protector, a role model, to name a few. But one thing is certain…no one can take her place.

In honor of Mother’s Day, we asked members of our firm some questions related to their experiences with motherhood, and about the wonderful women who helped shape their lives.

What is one important lesson your mom has taught you?

My Mom is the epitome of caring and selfless. She genuinely wants the best for her family.
She is patient, loving, caring and smart. All the things I try to emulate as a mom I have learned from her. Simply the world’s best mom and grandma!

Ritia Dawn Brown
Financial Advisor

What's the best thing about being a mom?

It is seeing your sons grow up to be people you are proud of! It is like receiving an award of a job well done. I’m no different than many of us that we made a lot of sacrifices for our family. Seeing my sons get married and have their children has been the most rewarding experience for me. Grandkids are the bomb! I get to relive life experiences through their eyes. As I grow older, I realize the things I missed with my own kids because I was focused on my career. I get a second chance to enjoy those times with my grandbabies. Family is everything and I cherish all the memories we make together. It is why we do what we do…to protect those who we love.

What does M.O.T.H.E.R. stand for?

This is probably the greatest and most rewarding title I have ever been given! I am not only blessed with an amazing biological daughter Jaime, but I am also a bonus mom to Mitzi and Sherry who live in Pennsylvania.

My bonus girls made me a proud nana of two boys (Bradley & Joshua) and one girl (Emily), and then one step further, the grands made me a great-nana to two girls (Aubree and Madison) and one boy (Liam), and I couldn't feel happier!

M | Is for that word that makes me smile no matter what mood I am in…when I hear "Mom," I just melt!

O | Is for being the “Other” mother in two very precious lives, who love me and make me feel cherished!

T | Is for the "Time" we make memories together and encourage each other to fly high!

H | Is the "Honor" GOD has given me to be someone’s mom, not just to my three daughters, but their friends as well!

E | Is for the "Enjoyment" of being with such awesome people, such loving people and most of all they are my everything!

R | Is for the "Right" to earn the title mom - knowing it’s the best thing I have ever done in my life!

My heart goes out to the many women in my life who have worn this title with grace and pride. You were and still are a huge impact on my knowledge of what it means to be a mom. I am so blessed and thankful beyond words for your belief in me as a mom, and for having such a great example to follow! Life is so good!

Thank you to everyone who shared, and thank you to the mothers who guide and inspire!

Steadman Financial Group had the opportunity to sponsor this event alongside affiliate MassMutual, and many of our financial professionals and their clients had a blast cheering on Team USA!

With the expectation of over 100,000 people coming to this event in the city of Toledo, restaurants hired new staff to compensate for the influx of people, and the power grid surrounding the course had been undergoing upgrades and inspections to make sure everything ran flawlessly. “The event was run very well! You could tell a lot of planning, preparation, and commitment from the entire community went into making this event a huge success,” said Steadman Partner and Financial Planner Chris Heerdegen.

Beginning the last day of August and spanning until Labor Day, the Solheim Cup had beautiful weather that drew out huge crowds of people eager to watch the professionals play, including a number of Steadman staff, financial professionals, and their clients. Due to Steadman’s sponsorship status at the tournament, tickets available ranged in access to different benefits at the tournament; general admission grounds-only passes, Meijer Pavilion passes, and the highest level of ticket which gave access to the Steadman Hospitality Suite.

Steadman also had tickets available to attend Solheim after sundown – a street fair filled with restaurants, shops, and businesses local to Toledo, the opening ceremony, which included a concert featuring Gwen Stefani, the closing ceremony, and a special golf outing at Inverness Club the day after the tournament finished for sponsors of the event.

The Steadman hospitality suite was situated in Inkster Village right on the 14th hole of the course. It featured delicious catered food for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks, drinks, comfortable seating to watch outside, and televisions inside to watch the action happening on the other holes. The Steadman hospitality suite also had a giveaway gift each day of the event, some items included were Solheim Cup and MassMutual branded hats and bags that everyone enjoyed taking home.

“As a member of Inverness, it was amazing to share my club with so many of my clients. All of them instantly sent me messages on how impressed they were with the course, the Steadman Hospitality Suite setup, and the event’s energy. Well done, Inverness, well done Toledo and well done Steadman for sponsoring this perhaps once in a lifetime event,” said Steadman Partner and Financial Planner Mike Buganski.

The Solheim Cup is an incredibly distinguished event that Steadman is so fortunate to have participated in and sponsor. Though Team Europe ended up taking home first place, we are so proud of our American golfers who played with great skill and sportsmanship!

Women’s History Month is a time for us all to appreciate the women who have made today possible. We look back and commend the work of women who fought for our freedoms regardless of consequence, and we look at those in our present day lives who provide support, strength, and a smile on a bad day.

During this time of reflection and admiration, we asked the women of Steadman: What female figure in your life inspires you to be your best self?

Jenn Hill, Chief Agency Supervisory Officer, Cleveland

The woman who has been the most inspirational to me is my mom and best friend, Diane. She raised five children as a single, working mom and taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, and balancing work/home life. She taught me and all my sisters to be independent, work hard, do what makes us happy and to be the best version of ourselves. She also encourages us to do spontaneous, sometimes ‘crazy’ things like running through a random corn field or sled riding at night to keep life fun and interesting. She demonstrated that no matter our circumstances, we should always be generous to those less fortunate. I am doing my best to continue her legacy and try to make her proud every day.

Phylicia Prince, Executive Assistant, Cleveland

I am inspired by numerous women who have shaped my life positively both in and out of the workplace. I feel like I am a mosaic made up of pieces of truly great women such as teachers, family, friends, co-workers, and more! My biggest inspiration is my mother, Joyce Riley. She inspires me to always be my best self. The sacrifice and hard work that she has dedicated to her loved ones inspires me to give my best at home and at work.

Mary Gensler, Operations Coordinator, Toledo

My daily inspiration is my team of extraordinary people that I have the pleasure of working with every day.  We work hard together, have fun together and we are all there for each other.  From the left: Joe Johnson, our ASO and resident mood lifter; Susan Vitas, our newest great addition; Deb Horvath, our gatekeeper and my rock; Austin Ott, our longest standing scanner; Katy Aldrich, no longer our newest addition, multitasker and a close second to Joe as comic relief; and Crystal Leach, our Queen of scanning and another one of my rocks.  Missing are: Sandy Fowler, New Business Coordinator who keeps me grounded; Erin Kilburn, my daughter, scanner and one who always is there for me; Angie Barney, my longtime friend and conscience; and Mark Greenblatt, who is the first one who says, “do you need help?” Chris Ghaffarian is our IT guy extraordinaire, always there when we need him, even though he is working remotely now.  These people inspire me every day to be my best self and make my life fun, easier, and whole.

Trisha Rutherford, Chief Operations Officer, Cincinnati

My mom has been the BIGGEST inspiration in my life by far. She was very young when I was born, so we had the opportunity to kind of grow up together. Her and my dad were married at the young age of 16 and 18 and have been together almost 39 years, exuding a strong example of what love and dedication to each other should look like. My mom didn’t have the option to chase her dreams, but she continues to push me to chase mine. She has shown me how to be an amazing mother, wife, and person. She pushes me to keep going on the tough days, celebrates the good days and when I’m in a rut or going through something she is always by my side. Knowing I have her cheering me on every step of the way truly inspires me to be my best self. Not only do I have an amazing role model, cheerleader, and mentor, I have a best friend.

Candace Gildea, Client Services Associate, Toledo

I am inspired by my mother, Teruko Ostrom. She was born in Tokyo, came to the United States with my father (a U.S. Navy career enlisted man) before I was born, and became a US citizen just days after my birth. We each celebrated ’60 years’ in April 2019!

My mother survived a war when she was just a child. Her hut was bombed more than once, forcing her family to sleep in a nearby cave at nights. She was on a ship that sank after being torpedoed by a US submarine and was in a small lifeboat on open water until they were rescued the next day. At 5 years old she was responsible for finding food for her family and caring for her newborn sister who was strapped to her back because her mother, conscripted by the Japanese Army, was forced to work in the fields all day. Yet despite that, the hardships after the war, and now battling breast cancer for the second time, she is a positive, loving, sweet woman who loves life and adventures. Before COVID if you called her up and said, ‘do you want to go to….’ (pick any place on earth), she was ready in an hour with her passport and suitcase.

Advice for young women, especially my daughters – it’s a big world out there. Live big, love big, and don’t ever let anyone stop you from being who you want to be. There is always someone who can do ‘things’ better than you, but no one can be the best you but yourself.

Michelle Taylor, Accountability Director, Cleveland

The woman who inspires me to be my best self is my sister Melissa.  Although she is younger than me, we have always pushed each other to be at our best potential, as mothers, daughters, in our careers, and life.  She knows me like no other person on this earth!

Thanks for sharing, ladies!

Steadman is fortunate to be made up of so many generous people who genuinely love to pay it forward to the communities that have helped shape them, one of them being Steadman Firm Ambassador Jeff Logan. We sat down with him to learn more about the story of his philanthropic organization, The Logan Family Foundation, and its most recent collaboration with Adaptive Sports Connection.

Growing up in Stark County, OH, the Logan household was full of five energetic kids passionate about sports. Their parents, Dick and Gloria, were the biggest drivers in their desire to give back to the community. “It is not that we grew up wealthy, but we grew up in a very loving home that was deeply involved with athletics and being of service to others,” said Jeff.

Because of their family’s involvement in athletics, they were constantly asked to support events raising money for various organizations. They never really knew where exactly the money would be going to solve a specific issue, but we knew it was important to help any way that they could. Stark County and the North Canton area puts a major emphasis on supporting children and families in need, so this too shaped how they gave back to the community.

The family continued their athleticism as they grew older. Jeff became an Ohio State and NFL football player, and two of his siblings went on to play football at Kent State University and brother Jud became a 4-time U.S Olympic hammer thrower. With these achievements they found they had a voice to help others in the community, and the Logan kids knew they wanted to continue their parents’ philanthropic values in a more meaningful way. So, the Logan Family Foundation was created.

The foundation started in 2004 with a board made up of the five Logan siblings, and through the years they have donated well over $600,000 to a lengthy list of organizations in Northeast Ohio, Ashland County and Central Ohio – each being areas where the Logan siblings live and work every day.  Each year the board members come together to present different charities that emphasize families and children and how their foundation can make a direct impact. “We are trying to find ways to create an immediate impact with the money we invest into charities,” said Jeff. What he means by this is that they will go to an organization and ask what they specifically need funded versus a general fund’s donation.  Our donors expect us to find those immediate impact areas and they have succeeded with that mission.

Each year they host events, including a live and silent auction. Their signature event is the ‘Celebrity Golf Classic’ where they have well-recognized coaches and former athletes from a variety of different sports spend the day with donors. They also have an honorary chair come speak. In years’ past they have had influential people like Former OSU Football Coaches Urban Meyer, Earle Bruce, Jim Tressel and two-time Heisman Award winner Archie Griffin to name a few.

This year due to COVID-19 they were not able to host the event, but to their delightful surprise people continued to be extremely generous and donated without attending the golf event.

The most recent organization they worked with the Columbus chapter of Adaptive Sports Connection. “We were blown away by what Adaptive Sports was and we knew we had to figure out how to fund some of their needs,” Jeff and his wife, Dena, said. Adaptive Sports aligns so closely with the Logan Foundation values as they create equipment and experiences for disabled people who want to participate in athletic activities. They have provided people with customized equipment for boating, kayaking, skiing, and much more. The focus is on wounded warriors, children and adults with disabilities by providing sports and recreational opportunities.

When Jeff spoke with Adaptive Sports about two years ago, he found their “Bikes to Go” program that customizes bikes and trikes to a specific child’s needs based on their disability. Jeff knew of a family in Ashland that had been part of the athletics training staff at Ashland University that had twins born with cerebral palsy. The Logan Foundation was able to cover the cost of making these customized bikes. This family will now be active in a way they never thought could be possible. The Logan Family Foundation loved working with Adaptive Sports and plans on a continued relationship with them to fund needs.  It took nearly 6 months to measure, fit and build these bikes but when they delivered these to the family the smiles on the kids and parents was priceless.

The Logan Family Foundation continues to provide families all around Ohio with life changing opportunities. “We are hoping that the next generation of Logans will take this to the next level,” said Jeff.

Thank you, Jeff, for sharing! Learn more about the Logan Family Foundation here.

This year has been full of unknowns and new ways of doing things, but luckily for us, Steadman is full of role models to help!

Check out some of the firm’s responses about who has impacted them:

Jessie Hansen, Financial Operations Analyst

The role models within Steadman Financial Group are abundant.

Starting with the executive team of Paul, Mike, Trish, Kathy, Jenn & the “I’m retired” Dan!  Each one of them bring a unique and finely-tuned expertise to the table.  For me, SFG has been nothing but a positive experience.

I will say my heroes are the dream team I work with, Kathy Barnes and Jay Tilton.  I have learned so much from them and the support we give one another is awesome!

I also must give credit to the Cincinnati office support team.  They are so supportive of one another and they all go out of their way to make sure our producers get the support they need.

This is my dream job – my only regret is I didn’t get my dream sooner, but have no fear, I believe I am here for my lifetime!

Jefferson Jarrell, Financial Planner

I can think of two very impactful people during my career with Steadman. The first person who comes to mind is Scott Rider.  Scott is a close friend of mine who I admire for his work ethic and moral practices that align with my own. Scott has a “can do” attitude that is infectious to everyone he meets. He puts his clients first above all else which truly speaks volumes about the person he is.

Secondly, I think of Dan Brennan. Dan has taught me over the years how to think outside the box with this type of business climate. He’s been a valuable asset to me on how to market myself and my practice, which I am always appreciative of.

Meredith Whitener, Financial Planner

My role models at Steadman are Jonathan Goldston and Mark Zumack. They have provided me endless support, training, and guidance since I transitioned to Steadman.

Jonathan is, in my opinion, the best senior partner to receive training from. He is passionate about his clients, his job, and about teaching. I am lucky to have a mentor who wants to dedicate time to truly educate.

Mark is the best accountability manager. I can tell he wants me to succeed, he always picks up the phone when I call and is always giving me a different perspective. I know I will be successful because I have these two men pushing me to be my best.

Thomas Wagner, Financial Advisor

My role models are Kevin Rood, Larry Tomczak, Kent Wyse, Phil Mason and Dale Seymour.

Kevin taught me how to sell Disability Income Insurance (DI) and was a vast resource of knowledge which gave me confidence to meet doctors, lawyers, accountants and business owners, and not be intimidated.  After six months with Kevin, I could be the subject matter expert in front of a client regarding DI.

Larry was my investment specialist for many years and was always there to answer a question, give me a sales idea when I needed it, or help me focus on what was important.

Kent and Phil were the people that helped me double my income in the early 2000’s by focusing on meeting lots of people and holding myself accountable to higher levels of activity and production.  I still work with Phil as my business partner and we have accomplished tremendous things in this business.

Dale was the one who initially believed in me even when I did not believe in myself.  In a sense, he hired me twice and the second time it clicked, and I never looked back. He was there to help get that big case through and encouraged me to excel.  His incentive trips were a goal to shoot for and his taking me and my wife aside to tell us we can do it went miles for our self-esteem.

Thanks to everyone who shared, and thank you to all of the role models of Steadman who continue to guide and inspire!

When Steadman financial advisors Dawn Brown and Lori Howe aren’t serving their clients, they are finding any way possible to serve their community. “The growth of our business goes hand in hand with our ability to give back to the world around us” says Dawn. They have taken on multiple community projects over the years, but their latest efforts have been with their local Salvation Army.

“Our commitment to community service started back in 2012 when Dawn and I joined WISE” said Lori Howe. WISE, or Women in Service Everyday, is an Ohio non-profit devoted to creating safe, healthy, and prosperous environments for women and children across the area.  “We were extremely moved by their mission and knew that this was something we wanted to be a part of.” Over the course of the next 7 years, Dawn and Lori would become highly involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Courage House, and New Beginnings Shelter.

At the start of 2019, the team had the opportunity to work with Salvation Army’s community kitchen and jumped on it. The two advisors remember being floored after discovering the plague of food insecurity that was present in their area. “The kitchen serves hundreds of meals everyday to homeless and low-income families across the community” says Dawn, “So being there to offer nourishment and fellowship to those who need it the most has been extremely rewarding.”

Lori and Dawn went on to say that they look forward to working with the Salvation Army throughout the year, alongside other charitable organizations. “Serving the people of Greater Columbus has been and will remain at the heart of everything we do” said Lori.

Thanks for your time ladies!

Looking for volunteering opportunities in the Columbus area? Check out Salvation Army’s website or the WISE Facebook page.
